FROM MATERIALS SCIENCE TO SOCIO-TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe development of clean energy technology and advanced materials to support our public infrastructure has emerged as a core focus of the engineer’s mission to build a safe, secure, and affluent society. Through our two research collaboratives, GMI Research Center aims to pool the wisdom of academia and the greater community for the advanced study of high strength structural materials and the materials for clean energy technology; to offer society resource-conscious, environmentally sound, and realizable solutions based on new materials; and to promote the kind of socio-technological innovation that our times demand.
Taking the technological “seeds” within the university as our starting point, we intend to work closely with all the program’s participants, combining the forces of industry, government, and academia to steadily meet and overcome the various challenges to successful development and social deployment of new materials technology.
