Concrete Research Group

The Concrete Research Group focuses on construction technology for ultra-durable concrete structures and techniques of repairing and reinforcing deteriorating structures.

In the development and performance-assessment of self-healing concrete, we are carrying out research in collaboration with several research institutes and governments.

The quality of the concrete in a structure is profoundly affected over time by on-site construction activities and environmental conditions. We have developed a system of nondestructive testing of surface water absorption for on-site assessment of surface condition, which controls the lifespan of concrete structures. The patent application is completed, and the technology is ready for commercialization. We have already received inquiries from a number of interested parties, including the research department of a major Japanese construction firm.
